About Mandy Vasek

Mandy Vasek earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Baylor University and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Mandy is now pursuing her Doctorate of Education from UMHB with a May 2017 expected graduation date.

Mandy has experience teaching 1st-4th grades and has also served as a campus instructional coach and assistant principal.  She currently serves as an elementary  principal on a PK-4th grade campus.  She has published articles related to social media, literacy, and gamification.  She has also facilitated three Edcamps (HOT, Global, CenTX).  Mandy moderates two weekly online chats:  #EdPiper with @TrueNorthCG on Monday evenings at 9 PM CST.  The moderated chat gives educators a platform to share their voice and expert knowledge within the social constructs of a community of practice (CoP)  Mandy Vasek has taken her expertise in social media and professional development to conferences and trainings, including TEPSA, CSOTTE, NAPDS, TASA, TW.  She has presented around her home state of Texas, as well as Atlanta, GA, Washington, DC, Cleveland, OH, and Boston, MA.

She is actively engaged in developing her own professional learning networks on social media sites, such as Twitter, Google +, Instagram, and LinkedIn. During her role as a campus leader, she has created her own professional blog titled, Leader of Learning, which can be found on WordPress or by going to the link: www.mandyvasek.com . Mandy has published some of her blog posts on ASCD Edge. Mandy’s current areas of interest include standards-based grading (SBG), oTPD (online teacher professional development), technology/curriculum integration, and school branding through various online platforms.

Her vision for education is to lead in a way that increases the capacity of quality teaching  to create optimum learning opportunities for children.  Her belief is that good leaders influence teachers to:

  • Have better relationships with students, parents, community, and staff members
  • Have a passion for learning as professionals in the field of education
  • Raise student performances through growth-mindset models, PBIS supports, and meeting the needs of the whole child
  • Increase student achievement through research-based practices
  • Help build a culture focused on learning by using a PLC model
  • Teach from the heart!
